InterContinental Hotels Group Honors Hostmark’s Holiday Inn Chicago Mart Plaza With Renovation of the Year Award

Schaumburg, IL, October 15, 2009 - Hostmark Hospitality Group, one of the nation’s largest third-party hotel management companies, is pleased to announce that InterContinental Hotels Group has named the Holiday Inn Chicago Mart Plaza Hotel as its ‘Renovation of the Year’ for fashioning an entire new look for the property, including the lobbies, function space, two innovative eateries, and 521 guestrooms and suites.
Commenting on the annual industry-wide award, the hotel’s General Manager Tony Miu termed the new look a ‘transformation,’ adding, “The design team gave the lobby spaces character in what used to be a big, pass-through void. They suggested different levels for the lobby to define the space and make it more comfortable and functional for our guests. They added a water feature as a focal point. People linger now; the space is beautiful."
Hostmark Hospitality Group, which operates Holiday Inn Chicago Mart Plaza, wanted to re-invigorate the property as ‘Fashionably corporate in America's Commercial Center.’ “The renovation is a divine redesign: uptown, upscale, and distinctive," comments Robert J. Cataldo, Vice Chairman/COO of Hostmark Hospitality Group. J/Brice Design International, Inc. was selected to complete the renovation project. The international design firm, founded two decades ago, has also created interiors for Hostmark's Amalfi Hotel, Chicago, IL;Wyndham Boston-Andover, Andover, MA and Doubletree Westshore Airport, Tampa, FL.
InterContinental Hotels Group awards ‘Renovation of the Year’ to properties in theWestern Hemisphere that have completed a major renewal during the past year. In addition to earning the InterContinental award, Crain's Chicago Business named the Holiday Inn Chicago Mart Plaza one of its ‘Best Hotels for Business Travel’ and the property was recently recognized as the largest LEED© gold-certified hotel in North America and first in the city of Chicago.
